Goethe, Wilhelm Meisters Lehrjare (1795–6) bk. 8, ch. 4, tr. Thomas Carlyle:
"Treat someone as they are and that is what remains.
Treat them as they can be and that they become."
“Addiction is a progressive narrowing of the things that bring you pleasure.
Happiness is a progressive expansion of the things that bring you pleasure.
The former emerges passively.
The latter takes work.”

Powerful historic mentor on meaning, purpose for living well... related to my favorite quote
Indigenous innovation | Jeff Ward | TEDxRoyalRoadsU
A living local mentor on the power of truth and reconciliation; particular the powerful indigenous messages for our time.
I hope to learn. To:
Expect any future, as we cannot control time and circumstance, yet
Practice actions with purpose, so my efforts work towards a preferred impact on the world.
For a purpose driven life my goals should have three levels: "be goals" that drive "do goals" that drive "process goals". And it is the third level that is work: focus on the process.
Apparently this is not a new idea. The 2012 book by "On the Self-Regulation of Behavior" by Carver and Scheier was reference by this interesting article on the user design framework for jobs to be done. They described the three levels as Powers’ hierarchy of goals.
For my life, this "be" <-> "do" <- > "practice" mindset feels right, aligning me to a balance of meaning, purpose, process and outcomes.
